Submissions Guidelines
Here at Imprint, we accept poetry, prose, and creative nonfiction that’s relevant and evocative. We want writing seeped in rich language, imagery, and symbolism, and value writers who understand the complexity of words. To all who submit, thank you for giving us a chance to read your work!
Reading Period
We accept submissions between August 1st and May 31st. Submissions made after May 31st at 11:59 p.m. will not be considered.

We encourage you to submit a short cover letter alongside your submission. In your cover letter, tell us a little bit about yourself and mention any past publications or awards.
General Guidelines
Poetry
You may submit 1-3 poems within the same document. Max of 10 pages. If your poem utilizes white space, please submit in a .pdf file.
Prose
We accept short stories, excerpts, and flash fiction. For flash fiction, you may submit up to three pieces (1,000 words each) within the same document. All submissions must be double-spaced and paginated. Max of 8,000 words.
Creative Nonfiction
We accept essay, memoir excerpts, and personal reflections. All submissions must be double-spaced and paginated. Max of 8,000 words.
Response Expectations
Our typical response time is 3-4 months. Please be patient with us and do not reach out for updates on your piece – we will get back with you during that time!
All decisions will be conveyed via email, unless a physical response has been requested. Physical responses are only an option for those who have submitted their manuscript physically and must be requested by including a stamped, addressed envelope (SAE) within your physical submission.

General Guidelines
- There is no fee to submit.
- We accept simultaneous submissions but not multiple submissions.
- Each writer may only submit one piece at a time – once you have received a decision on your piece, you may submit again as long as our reading period is still open.
- You may submit your piece to other magazines. If your piece is accepted elsewhere, we request that you withdraw your submission by leaving a comment on our online submissions manager.
- All submissions must be previously unpublished. That includes work published online, in print, on social media, etc.
- All submissions must be in English.
- Please do not include any personal or contact information within your manuscript.
- You may only submit excerpts that read as if they were meant to stand alone.
- Submit your work in a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file.
- Writers whose work is accepted will be paid $10 per page for prose pieces and $20 per page for poetry, up to a maximum of $200 per piece.
